Here is a picture of TJ from one of
our first shows this year. He helped
both of my girls win local cowgirl
queen contests this year, and will
be competing with each of them in
the Iowa State Cowgirl Queen
Contest. The Jr. Queen contest with
my youngest daughter, and the Sr.
division with my older daughter.
Since we haven't found "the perfect"
horse for my younger daughter yet,
he has been doing double duty, and
showing with both of them. They are
all having a great show season, if
only there was a clone of him... :)

Here is a photo from our first class
and our first time showing!
We had a great first show. Tex was
really good. We are working on hunt
seat, trail and patterns and
hopefully will try for the
all-around at the Zone show in
Novice Amateur in July. He loves to
go hunt seat and moves like a big
horse. I will have to confirm the
results but he won the Green Western
Pleasure with Adrienne and got 2nd
in the NSBA 3 year old open western
pleasure. A lot of people (even
strangers) thought he should have
won the futurity and we got a lot of
positive feedback. We got a 3rd and
3 4ths in NA Western Pleasure and
5th in Showmanship (I messed up). I
was very excited that things went so
well, since it was my first time
showing APHA and western pleasure. I
am looking forward to the next show
and will keep you posted on our
progress.

I'd watched Mo Reda in the arena for a
couple of years and always thought he
was such a pretty horse and an awesome
mover. He was strictly a western
pleasure horse before I got him, but I
always thought he could do so much more!
I was looking around to “upgrade” and
could not believe it when I found that I
was going to be able to buy him in
February of 2010. I brought him home and
started to teach him the All-Around
events; he is so smart and so willing to
learn.
Once Mo Reda determined that it was “OK”
for judges to be sitting in chairs in
the arena (for the pattern classes), he
and I started writing a new chapter in
his life as a show horse. I finished his
Open Performance ROM in June of 2010
with points in Hunter Under Saddle at
our second show. Now, along with the
Western Pleasure points he had when I
bought him, he has earned points in
Hunter Under Saddle, Trail,
Horsemanship, Showmanship, and
Equitation. We are learning a flying
lead change, so Western Riding may be
next on our list!

Erin Shappell and "Ace"
Erin Shappell and One
Red Hot Tonite had a nice weekend at the
2011 Little River Circuit in Camden,
taking home 5 circuit champions.
I can’t tell you how proud we are of
Erin and Ace. Most important, we were
told by the ring steward that the judges
all noted how much Erin truly loved her
horse as she always gave him a bear hug
on the way out and seemed to have a
genuine relationship with her horse.
When total strangers see that, that
means something. Perhaps the most
important thing was when Erin told us
last week that she just didn’t want
another horse, even if it was just to
ride in the “big” shows. Besides, Ace
can clearly win – it’s in the genes!"
Very best,
Scott Shappell

Southern Flashback
aka "Chester"
Owned and shown
by Carol Richardson, Zachary, La.
Reserve Champion at the 2009 Region 9
show Select Western Pleasure.
L.Q.H.A. 2009 Champion in Select Western
Pleasure.
L.Q.H.A. 2009 Reserve Champion In Senior
Western Pleasure.
I was fortunate to
purchase Chester from Merry in 2008. I
found that he was that rare horse, a
diamond in the ruff find. He is kept at
home and I do all his preparation for
showing on my own. He loves my
grandchildren and my grandchildren love
him. Truly a wonderful and trusting
horse for the whole family. To have such
a successful show season was exciting
for me. Looking forward to 2010! Thank
you Merry!

We weren't able to
make a lot of shows this year because of
school commitments (Auburn Equestrian
Team). They did however still manage to
accrue a few points this year.

and Open Hunter Under Saddle.
AQHA points in Amateur Halter, Western
Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle,
Huntseat Equitation and Showmanship.
A Performance ROM.
At the Region Nine Show they were the
Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle
Champions.
Willie and Mary also won several state
and reserve state championships in the
Alabama Quarter Horse Association in
Open, Amateur and Novice Amateur
Classes. And for the 4th year in a row
Willie was the Alabama Quarter Horse
Associations All Around High Point
Gelding and this year he also won the
ALQHA High Point Halter Horse Award.
Did I mention he hasn't been to a
trainer in two years!!

Brodie and I getting together was
like me meeting prince charming! I never
thought I would find him and after my
bad fall I never thought I could have a
horse I totally trusted and felt
confident with. His mind is his most
wonderful asset. Personality is his
second best asset and of course he is
always handsome, see “prince charming”
Last year Brodie and I received 2 awards
thru the AQHA horseback riding program,
we received a 25hr and 50hour award. We
will try again for more hours this year
thru this program.
My goals this year are:
to continue my
dressage lesson program with Werner Geven head trainer at Poplar Place Farms
in Hamilton, GA.
Obtain my level one Parelli certificate
Attend the following shows in 2010:
Dressage schooling shows, Poplar Place
Farms, April 3rd, May 8th and June 26,
plan to show a USDF/ USEF show in the
Fall 2010 or Early Spring 2011
4th annual Fayette County Open Horse
Show at QC arena in Gay, GA April 17th,
showing Hunter under saddle and hunt
seat equitation
Also plan to attend one of the HQHA or
GQHA shows this spring/summer/fall
showing Hunter Under saddle and Hunt
Seat Equitation.
